Are all Look Keo cleats the same?
Look’s approach to float adjustment with the Keo is to simply offer three different cleats; one has zero float (fixed – a black cleat) while the other two have 4.5 (grey) and 9 degrees (red) of float, respectively.
Are Keo and Shimano cleats the same?
The newer Shimano pedals use their own cleats – hence the SPD-SL designation. Look pedals either use a Delta cleat, Keo Classic, or Keo 2 cleat. Now if you have an older set of Shimano pedals, they used to license the technology from Look, and those pedals used the Delta cleats. You can’t fix stupid.

I use the cleats with the Look Keo Max 2 pedals on a touring road bike. I was concerned that the cleats may fail on a long tour, but no such problem. In touring with road shoes cleats get a lot of wear, getting on and off the bike and walking short distances to get supplies.
