Does Cal Poly accept the Common Application?
Cal Poly will be selecting some of the best and brightest students in California and around the world to join us next year. Our undergraduate application is open from October 1 – December 15 through Cal State Apply, the common application for all CSU campuses.

Does Cal Poly require freshmen to live on campus?
At Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, all admitted, first-time freshmen will be required to live on campus for their first year to ensure everyone receives the benefit of the campus housing experience.
Do Cal States give scholarships?
All eligible students may apply for scholarships administered by a CSU campus. Scholarships are free money that the student does not have to re-pay. Students are encouraged to check their CSU campus website for more information on applying for a campus scholarship.
Are Cal Poly dorms coed?
We offer gender-inclusive housing options in every freshman Residential Learning Community. First-years can request the Gender-inclusive Living Learning program or a gender-inclusive room in another Living Learning Program.

Are dogs allowed on Cal Poly campus?
Cal Poly complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to service animals. Under Campus Administrative Policy 353, with the exception of service animals used to guide or assist persons with disabilities, pets are not permitted in any campus building, even if on a leash.
Do Cal Poly dorms have air conditioning?
Heat and cooling are controlled centrally by the university. Cal Poly switches the system to heat during cooler months and to cooling during warmer months. A controlling mechanism in each individual room turns on the system to deliver heat or cool air, depending on which system is active.

What application does Cal Poly use?
Cal Poly accepts applications online through Cal State Apply. You may also want to look through our application resources for tips on how to complete the application. When submitting your application, you must send Cal Poly an official transcript from the institution that granted (or will grant) your degree.
What is a gender inclusive dorm?
Gender-Inclusive housing assignments refer to a housing option in which two or more students mutually agree to share a multiple-occupancy bedroom, suite, or apartment without regard to the gender of the occupants.
Can freshman have cars at Cal Poly Pomona?
Cal Poly residential students are not permitted to bring vehicles to campus for the duration of their freshman year (fall through spring quarters). This includes students who have enough credits to be considered sophomores at any time during their first academic year at Cal Poly.
Does Cal Poly have dorms?
Cal Poly requires all first-year students to live on campus in one of our residence halls: Yosemite & Sierra Madre, South Mountain Halls, North Mountain Halls or yakʔitʸutʸu. Our residence halls feature double, triple and quad rooms. The majority of rooms are triples.

How many students live on campus? About 7,700 students currently live in the University Housing system. Seven new halls are currently under construction and will open in Fall 2018 and we anticipate housing approximately 8,400 students.
Does Cal Poly give merit scholarships?
When you apply to Cal Poly, you are automatically considered for most of our university-wide and college-based scholarships. Scholarships are awarded each year. Generally, a student should have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Both undergraduate and graduate students are considered for scholarships.
