If your car engine sputters while accelerating at low rpm, the issue could stem from the fuel system, including the fuel filter, pump, and injectors. Besides, the problem could also come from the ignition system or sensors, such as manifold absolute pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, and mass airflow sensor.
What would cause a car to sputter while idling?
The most common reason your car engine is sputtering is because of an issue with the fuel system. This can be caused by a bad fuel filter, fuel pump, or fuel injector. It can also be caused by spark issues from bad spark plugs or ignition coils.

My IS200 (1GFE) idles that low too, given that it’s warmed up properly. I don’t see an issue with it, to be honest. 500 rpm doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Check for vacuum leaks….and check the aic (air idle control) may need to be cleaned and adjusted. ..average idle should be at 800 to 900 rpm…
What to look for in a low idle condition?
Some of the basic things that I would verify in a low idle condition is that you have 13.2-14.8v on the battery and at the AEM while running, relocated or not, as well as verify the throttle body (more less butterfly) and the MAF is clean.
